“I am mute, I do not open my mouth, Because it is You who has done it.

¶He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth [to complain or defend Himself]; Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before her shearers, So He did not open His mouth.

But when the charges were brought against Him by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer. [Is 53:7]

But Jesus did not reply to him, not even to a single accusation, so that the governor was greatly astonished.

“Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

But Jesus gave no further answer; so Pilate was perplexed. [Is 53:7]

And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox [that sly, cowardly man], ‘Listen carefully: I cast out demons and perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I reach My goal.’

The chief priests and the scribes were standing there, continually accusing Him heatedly.

He went into the Praetorium again and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus did not answer him. [Is 53:7]

Now this was the passage of Scripture which he was reading: “Like a sheep He was led to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth.

While being reviled and insulted, He did not revile or insult in return; while suffering, He made no threats [of vengeance], but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges fairly.
