Joshua 10:13

Amplified Bible

So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation [of Israel] took vengeance upon their enemies. Is it not written in the Book of Jashar? So the sun stood still in the middle of the sky and was in no hurry to go down for about a whole day.

and he told them to teach the sons of Judah, the song of the bow. Behold, it is written in the Book of Jashar:

Hezekiah answered, “It is easy for the shadow to go forward ten steps; no, but let the shadow turn backward ten steps.”

A copy of the edict was to be issued as a law in every province and as a proclamation to all peoples, so that the Jews would be ready on that day, to avenge themselves on their enemies.

Who commands the sun, and it does not shine; Who seals up the stars [from view];

Praise Him, sun and moon: Praise Him, all stars of light!

Yet their voice [in quiet evidence] has gone out through all the earth, Their words to the end of the world. In them and in the heavens He has made a tent for the sun, [Rom 10:18]

The earth quakes before them, The heavens tremble, The sun and the moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness. [Rev 9:2-4; 16:14]

“The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes. [Is 13:6, 9-11; 24:21-23; Ezek 32:7-10; Matt 24:29, 30; Rev 6:12-17]

The sun and the moon grow dark And the stars lose their brightness.

The sun and moon stood in their places [as before Joshua]; They went away at the light of Your [swift] arrows, At the radiance and gleam of Your glittering spear. [Josh 10:12, 13]

That is why it is said in the Book of the Wars of the Lord: “Waheb in Suphah, And the wadis of the Arnon [River],

“Take vengeance for the Israelites on the Midianites; afterward you will be gathered to your people [in death].”

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not provide its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. [Is 13:10; 34:4; Joel 2:10, 11; Zeph 1:15]

so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good, and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him].

And will not [our just] God defend and avenge His elect [His chosen ones] who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay [in providing justice] on their behalf?

‘The sun shall be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

As they fled before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down large stones [of hail] from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. More [Amorites] died because of the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.

There has not been a day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to (heeded) the voice of a man; for the Lord was fighting for Israel.

And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the glory (splendor, radiance) of God has illumined it, and the Lamb is its lamp and light. [Is 24:23; 60:19, 20]

They cried in a loud voice, saying, “O Lord, holy and true, how long now before You will sit in judgment and avenge our blood on those [unregenerate ones] who dwell on the earth?” [Gen 4:10; Ps 79:10; 94:3; Zech 1:12]

I looked when He (the Lamb) broke open the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth [made] of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; [Joel 2:10, 31]

Then the fourth angel sounded [his trumpet], and a third of the sun and a third of the moon and a third of the stars were struck, so that a third of them would be darkened and a third of the daylight would not shine, and the night in the same way [would not shine]. [Ex 10:21-23]

Then Samson called to the Lord and said, “O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me just this one time, O God, and let me take vengeance on the Philistines for my two eyes.”

“For the leaders who took the lead in Israel, For the people who volunteered [for battle], Bless the Lord!
