Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

I thought and quieted myself until morning. Like a lion He breaks all my bones; from day to night You bring me to an end.

Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.

But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the [Gospel] message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was delivered out of the jaws of the lion.

Against me they opened their mouths wide, like a ravening and roaring lion.

Like a lion greedy and eager to tear his prey, and as a young lion lurking in hidden places.

He lurks in secret places like a lion in his thicket; he lies in wait that he may seize the poor (the helpless and the unfortunate); he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.

Although You know that I am not wicked or guilty and that there is none who can deliver me out of Your hand?

And your handmaid had two sons, and they quarreled with one another in the field. There was no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him.

And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon, and they had no business with anyone. It was in the valley which belongs to Beth-rehob. And they rebuilt the city and dwelt in it.

IN THE Lord I take refuge [and put my trust]; how can you say to me, Flee like a bird to your mountain?

KEEP and protect me, O God, for in You I have found refuge, and in You do I put my trust and hide myself.

Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily! Be my Rock of refuge, a strong Fortress to save me!

Deliver me from and lift me above those who work evil and save me from bloodthirsty men.
