My friends scorn me, but my eye pours out tears to God.

Turn away my reproach which I fear and dread, for Your ordinances are good.

Then shall I have an answer for those who taunt and reproach me, for I lean on, rely on, and trust in Your word.

Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.

And He will make your uprightness and right standing with God go forth as the light, and your justice and right as [the shining sun of] the noonday.

Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the scorn and reproach of the [self-confident] fool!

As with a sword [crushing] in my bones, my enemies taunt and reproach me, while they say continually to me, Where is your God?

[After all] what kind of glory [is there in it] if, when you do wrong and are punished for it, you take it patiently? But if you bear patiently with suffering [which results] when you do right and that is undeserved, it is acceptable and pleasing to God.

And Nabal answered David's servants and said, Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants nowadays who are each breaking away from his master.

When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the Lord, Who has pleaded the cause of my reproach at the hand of Nabal, and kept His servant from evil. For the Lord has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him as his wife.
