But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a lone broom or juniper tree and asked that he might die. He said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am no better than my fathers.

So that I would choose strangling and death rather than these my bones.

Yet now, if You will forgive their sin–and if not, blot me, I pray You, out of Your book which You have written!

Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will you indeed be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail and are uncertain?

Why did I come out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed in shame?

Therefore now, O Lord, I beseech You, take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live.

[For then it will be that] the Lord has taken away the judgments against you; He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, even the Lord [Himself], is in the midst of you; [and after He has come to you] you shall not experience or fear evil any more.

But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.
