And he said, I will do this: I will pull down my storehouses and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain or produce and my goods.

From men by Your hand, O Lord, from men of this world [these poor moths of the night] whose portion in life is idle and vain. Their bellies are filled with Your hidden treasure [what You have stored up]; their children are satiated, and they leave the rest [of their] wealth to their babes.

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?

And he considered and debated within himself, What shall I do? I have no place [in which] to gather together my harvest.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many good things laid up, [enough] for many years. Take your ease; eat, drink, and enjoy yourself merrily.

So it is with the one who continues to lay up and hoard possessions for himself and is not rich [in his relation] to God [this is how he fares].

Observe and consider the ravens; for they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn; and [yet] God feeds them. Of how much more worth are you than the birds!

And for a time he would not; but later he said to himself, Though I have neither reverence or fear for God nor respect or consideration for man,

Then the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says!

This [superficial] wisdom is not such as comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual (animal), even devilish (demoniacal).

Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a city and spend a year there and carry on our business and make money.

You ought instead to say, If the Lord is willing, we shall live and we shall do this or that [thing].
