And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God's provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years, [Gen. 8:22.]

And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.

And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth. And it was so.

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

I set My bow [rainbow] in the cloud, and it shall be a token or sign of a covenant or solemn pledge between Me and the earth.

Is there any number to His armies? And upon whom does not His light arise?

Behold, even the moon has no brightness [compared to God's glory] and the stars are not pure in His sight–

Let the stars of the early dawn of that day be dark; let [the morning] look in vain for the light, nor let it behold the day's dawning,

All [the whole universe] are Your servants; therefore they continue this day according to Your ordinances. [Jer. 33:25.]

Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, all you stars of light!

He also established them forever and ever; He made a decree which shall not pass away [He fixed their bounds which cannot be passed over].

PRAISE THE Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the heavens of His power!

Blow the trumpet at the New Moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.

Lift up your eyes on high and see! Who has created these? He Who brings out their host by number and calls them all by name; through the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power, not one is missing or lacks anything.

Thus says the Lord: Learn not the way of the [heathen] nations and be not dismayed at the signs of the heavens, though they are dismayed at them,

Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day and the fixed order of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, Who stirs up the sea's roaring billows or stills the waves when they roar–the Lord of hosts is His name:

Thus says the Lord: If you can break My covenant with the day, and My covenant with the night, so that there should not be day and night in their season,

Thus says the Lord: If My covenant with day and night does not stand, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of the heavens and the earth [the whole order of nature],

THUS SAYS the Lord God: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall be shut during the six working days, but on the Sabbath it shall be opened, and also on the day of the New Moon it shall be opened.

And on the day of the New Moon the offering shall be a young bull without blemish and six lambs and a ram without blemish.

The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened and the stars withdraw their shining. [Rev. 9:2-4; 16:14.]
