As if it had been a light thing for Ahab to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he took for a wife Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and served Baal and worshiped him.

You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me, [Isa. 42:8; 48:11.]

For if you turn back and adhere to the remnant of these nations left among you and make marriages with them, you marrying their women and they yours,

And the people of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.

So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel; and He said, Because this people have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers and have not listened to My voice,

And they married their daughters and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods. [Exod. 34:12-16.]
