And Ahab [already depressed by the Lord's message to him] came into his house [more] resentful and sullen because of what Naboth the Jezreelite had said to him; for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he lay down on his bed, turned away his face, and would eat no food.

And Amnon was so troubled that he fell sick for his [half] sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and Amnon thought it impossible for him to do anything to her.

NOW NABOTH the Jezreelite had a vineyard in Jezreel, close beside the palace of Ahab king of Samaria; and after these things,

Naboth said to Ahab, The Lord forbid that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you.

But Jezebel his wife came and said to him, Why is your spirit so troubled that you eat no food?

Yet all this benefits me nothing as long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.

For vexation and rage kill the foolish man; jealousy and indignation slay the simple.

Better is the sight of the eyes [the enjoyment of what is available to one] than the cravings of wandering desire. This is also vanity (emptiness, falsity, and futility) and a striving after the wind and a feeding on it!

BUT IT displeased Jonah exceedingly and he was very angry.

Then said the Lord, Do you do well to be angry?

And when the sun arose, God prepared a sultry east wind, and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah so that he fainted and wished in himself to die and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

And God said to Jonah, Do you do well to be angry for the loss of the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, angry enough to die!

Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].

But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).

But he said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, urged him, and he heeded their words. So he arose from the ground and sat upon the bed.
