He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert;\par\tab He lieth in wait to catch the poor:\par\tab He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.
For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul;\par\tab The mighty gather themselves together against me:\par\tab Not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah.
The godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.
All my bones shall say,\par\tab Jehovah, who is like unto thee,\par\tab Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,\par\tab Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?
He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth {\i them}:
A voice of the wailing of the shepherds! for their glory is destroyed: a voice of the roaring of young lions! for the pride of the Jordan is laid waste.\par
Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors:\par\tab They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;\par\tab Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery; yea, they have vexed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the sojourner wrongfully.
Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,\par\tab Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;\par\tab I will set him in the safety he panteth for.
Do not thou therefore yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, who have bound themselves under a curse, neither to eat nor to drink till they have slain him: and now are they ready, looking for the promise from thee.
