Withhold not correction from the child;\par\tab {\i For} if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son;\par\tab But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest;\par\tab Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.
The rod and reproof give wisdom;\par\tab But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.
Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope;\par\tab And set not thy heart on his destruction.
It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom {\i his} father chasteneth not?
Apply thy heart unto instruction,\par\tab And thine ears to the words of knowledge.
Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;\par\tab {\i But} the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
