For in vain is the net spread\par\tab In the sight of any bird:
Till an arrow strike through his liver;\par\tab As a bird hasteth to the snare,\par\tab And knoweth not that it is for his life.\par
Yea, the stork in the heavens knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle-dove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the law of Jehovah.\par
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth,\par\tab And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?
The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib; {\i but} Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
For their feet run to evil,\par\tab And they make haste to shed blood.
And these lay wait for their own blood;\par\tab They lurk privily for their own lives.
