And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

And Jesus said unto them, {\cf6 Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.}

Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

And this they said, trying him, that they might have {\i whereof} to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

But the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection;

But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and made trial of him, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

And there come unto him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, {\cf6 Why make ye trial of me? bring me a denarius, that I may see it.}

And there came unto him Pharisees, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away {\i his} wife? trying him.

Now on the morrow, which is {\i the day} after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate,

saying, {\cf6 The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat:

On that day there came to him Sadducees, saying that there is no resurrection: and they asked him,

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, {\cf6 Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?

Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in {\i his} talk.

And there came unto him Pharisees, trying him, and saying, Is it lawful {\i for a man} to put away his wife for every cause?

Then there come to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying,

But the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him.\par

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Teacher with the publicans and sinners?

For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed {\i the righteousness} of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.\par

Answer a fool according to his folly,\par\tab Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
