Her filthiness was in her skirts; she remembered not her latter end;\par\tab Therefore is she come down wonderfully; she hath no comforter:\par\tab Behold, O Jehovah, my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself.

For death is come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from without, {\i and} the young men from the streets.

For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passeth through; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beasts are fled, they are gone.

Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and, behold, the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:\par\tab And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;\par\tab And for comforters, but I found none.

Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! my heart is faint within me.

Their enemies also oppressed them,\par\tab And they were brought into subjection under their hand.

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will set thy stones in fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.

For who will have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who will bemoan thee? or who will turn aside to ask of thy welfare?
