All her people sigh, they seek bread;\par\tab They have given their pleasant things for food to refresh the soul:\par\tab See, O Jehovah, and behold; for I am become abject.
My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.
They say to their mothers, Where is grain and wine?\par\tab When they swoon as the wounded in the streets of the city,\par\tab When their soul is poured out into their mothers' bosom.
See, O Jehovah, and behold to whom thou hast done thus!\par\tab Shall the women eat their fruit, the children that are dandled in the hands?\par\tab Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?
Her filthiness was in her skirts; she remembered not her latter end;\par\tab Therefore is she come down wonderfully; she hath no comforter:\par\tab Behold, O Jehovah, my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself.
And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.\par
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
Therefore thus saith Jehovah, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, that thou mayest stand before me; and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: they shall return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them.
Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is become as an unclean thing;\par\tab All that honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:\par\tab Yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward.\par
Mine eyes do fail with tears, my heart is troubled;\par\tab My liver is poured upon the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,\par\tab Because the young children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city.
