Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?

Whatsoever hath been, the name thereof was given long ago; and it is known what man is; neither can he contend with him that is mightier than he.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant;\par\tab For in thy sight no man living is righteous.

God is not a man, that he should lie, Neither the son of man, that he should repent: Hath he said, and will he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and will he not make it good?

because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd that will stand before me?\par

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! a potsherd among the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

Behold, I will answer thee, in this thou art not just;\par\tab For God is greater than man.\par

But Jehovah said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for Jehovah seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looketh on the heart.

If he be pleased to contend with him,\par\tab He cannot answer him one of a thousand.

How much less shall I answer him,\par\tab And choose out my words {\i to reason} with him?

Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch,\par\tab And mine own clothes shall abhor me.

If {\i we speak} of strength, lo, {\i he is} mighty!\par\tab And if of justice, Who, {\i saith he}, will summon me?

Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid,\par\tab Neither shall my pressure be heavy upon thee.\par
