Oh that I might have my request;\par\tab And that God would grant {\i me} the thing that I long for!
{\b KAPH.}\par\par\tab My soul fainteth for thy salvation;\par\tab {\i But} I hope in thy word.
My soul refuseth to touch {\i them};\par\tab They are as loathsome food to me.\par
Even that it would please God to crush me;\par\tab That he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
Therefore now, O Jehovah, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper-tree: and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough; now, O Jehovah, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
Who long for death, but it cometh not,\par\tab And dig for it more than for hid treasures;
Who rejoice exceedingly,\par\tab And are glad, when they can find the grave?
My soul is weary of my life;\par\tab I will give free course to my complaint;\par\tab I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
