Pure religion and undefiled before {\i our} God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, {\i and} to keep oneself unspotted from the world.\par

In thee have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the sojourner; in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

Judge the poor and fatherless:\par\tab Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.

They have prepared a net for my steps;\par\tab My soul is bowed down:\par\tab They have digged a pit before me;\par\tab They are fallen into the midst thereof themselves. {\i Selah

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless,\par\tab Because I saw my help in the gate:

Or have eaten my morsel alone,\par\tab And the fatherless hath not eaten thereof

Because I delivered the poor that cried,\par\tab The fatherless also, that had none to help him.

And a sojourner shalt thou not wrong, neither shalt thou oppress him: for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
