For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing\par\tab That he should delight himself with God.\par
That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee?\par\tab {\i And}, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?
Ye have said, It is vain to serve God; and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before Jehovah of hosts?
Delight thyself also in Jehovah;\par\tab And he will give thee the desires of thy heart.
Will he delight himself in the Almighty,\par\tab And call upon God at all times?
Who said unto God, Depart from us;\par\tab And, What can the Almighty do for us?
That the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity?\par\tab That they are led forth to the day of wrath?
When thou sawest a thief, thou consentedst with him,\par\tab And hast been partaker with adulterers.
Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart,\par\tab And washed my hands in innocency;
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous?\par\tab Or is it gain {\i to him}, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
Wherefore have we fasted, {\i say they}, and thou seest not? {\i wherefore} have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find {\i your own} pleasure, and exact all your labors.
