Although thou knowest that I am not wicked,\par\tab And there is none that can deliver out of thy hand?\par

For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure,\par\tab And I am clean in thine eyes.

I am perfect; I regard not myself;\par\tab I despise my life.

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me:\par\tab My justice was as a robe and a diadem.

Yet thou saidst, I am innocent; surely his anger is turned away from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

Upright men shall be astonished at this,\par\tab And the innocent shall stir up himself against the godless.

How many are mine iniquities and sins?\par\tab Make me to know my transgression and my sin.

Behold now, I have set my cause in order;\par\tab I know that I am righteous.

I am afraid of all my sorrows,\par\tab I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

If the scourge slay suddenly,\par\tab He will mock at the trial of the innocent.

For he breaketh me with a tempest,\par\tab And multiplieth my wounds without cause.

And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity?\par\tab For now shall I lie down in the dust;\par\tab And thou wilt seek me diligently, but I shall not be.\par

If I sin, then thou markest me,\par\tab And thou wilt not acquit me from mine iniquity.

My transgression is sealed up in a bag,\par\tab And thou fastenest up mine iniquity.\par

Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing,\par\tab And I have heard the voice of {\i thy} words, {\i saying},

For Job hath said, I am righteous,\par\tab And God hath taken away my right:

Yet shall the righteous hold on his way,\par\tab And he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger.

But he knoweth the way that I take;\par\tab When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Notwithstanding my right I am {\i accounted} a liar;\par\tab My wound is incurable, {\i though I am} without transgression.

Thinkest thou this to be {\i thy} right,\par\tab {\i Or} sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God's,
