{\i Why is light given} to a man whose way is hid,\par\tab And whom God hath hedged in?
He hath walled up my way that I cannot pass,\par\tab And hath set darkness in my paths.
He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.
Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice {\i due} to me is passed away from my God?
Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she shall not find her paths.
He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.
Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;\par\tab Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:\par\tab I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
And thou hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy;\par\tab Thou hast set my feet in a large place.
His troops come on together,\par\tab And cast up their way against me,\par\tab And encamp round about my tent.\par
Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again;\par\tab He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.
Know now that God hath subverted me {\i in my cause},\par\tab And hath compassed me with his net.\par
Who rejoice exceedingly,\par\tab And are glad, when they can find the grave?
Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks,\par\tab And markest all my paths;\par\tab Thou settest a bound to the soles of my feet:
Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:\par\tab I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;\par\tab I have spread forth my hands unto thee.
