Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do {\i it} with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.\par

One dieth in his full strength,\par\tab Being wholly at ease and quiet:

They spend their days in prosperity,\par\tab And in a moment they go down to Sheol.

Whom I, even I, shall see, on my side,\par\tab And mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger.\par\tab My heart is consumed within me.

If I look for Sheol as my house;\par\tab If I have spread my couch in the darkness;

The land dark as midnight,\par\tab {\i The land} of the shadow of death, without any order,\par\tab And where the light is as midnight.\par

And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity?\par\tab For now shall I lie down in the dust;\par\tab And thou wilt seek me diligently, but I shall not be.\par

Why did the knees receive me?\par\tab Or why the breast, that I should suck?

Before I go whence I shall not return,\par\tab {\i Even} to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;

Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth;\par\tab Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

For when a few years are come,\par\tab I shall go the way whence I shall not return.\par

But as for me I know that my Redeemer liveth,\par\tab And at last he will stand up upon the earth:

They lie down alike in the dust,\par\tab And the worm covereth them.\par

Drought and heat consume the snow waters:\par\tab {\i So doth} Sheol {\i those that} have sinned.

The womb shall forget him;\par\tab The worm shall feed sweetly on him;\par\tab He shall be no more remembered;\par\tab And unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.

They that are deceased tremble\par\tab Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof.

Sheol is naked before {\i God},\par\tab And Abaddon hath no covering.

There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,\par\tab Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, that are gone down to Sheol with their weapons of war, and have laid their swords under their heads, and their iniquities are upon their bones; for {\i they were} the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.
