Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, that have been borne {\i by me} from their birth, that have been carried from the womb;

Give them, O Jehovah—what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; {\i yet} every one of them doth curse me.\par

By thee have I been holden up from the womb;\par\tab Thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels:\par\tab My praise shall be continually of thee.

Why did the knees receive me?\par\tab Or why the breast, that I should suck?

Wherefore I praised the dead that have been long dead more than the living that are yet alive;

yea, better than them both {\i did I esteem} him that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.\par

because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul be not filled with good, and moreover he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he:

moreover it hath not seen the sun nor known it; this hath rest rather than the other:
