Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;\par\tab Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:\par\tab I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,\par\tab And mine acquaintance into darkness.\par

I am become a stranger unto my brethren,\par\tab And an alien unto my mother's children.

Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one a ring of gold.

Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted,\par\tab Who did eat of my bread,\par\tab Hath lifted up his heel against me.

She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks;\par\tab Among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her:\par\tab All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

I called for my lovers, {\i but} they deceived me:\par\tab My priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city,\par\tab While they sought them food to refresh their souls.\par

My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook,\par\tab As the channel of brooks that pass away;

They were put to shame because they had hoped;\par\tab They came thither, and were confounded.

I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:\par\tab I am like a broken vessel.

They also that seek after my life lay snares {\i for me};\par\tab And they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things,\par\tab And meditate deceits all the day long.

For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;\par\tab And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.
