a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains; a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, even to the years of many generations.

We get our bread at the peril of our lives,\par\tab Because of the sword of the wilderness.

We have given the hand to the Egyptians,\par\tab And to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.

Yea, if a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all; but let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.\par

He shall be driven from light into darkness,\par\tab And chased out of the world.

when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth.

He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness,\par\tab And he is waited for of the sword.

Distress and anguish make him afraid;\par\tab They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

He shall not depart out of darkness;\par\tab The flame shall dry up his branches,\par\tab And by the breath of {\i God's} mouth shall he go away.

But I will sing of thy strength;\par\tab Yea, I will sing aloud of thy lovingkindness in the morning:\par\tab For thou hast been my high tower,\par\tab And a refuge in the day of my distress.

Jehovah will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish;\par\tab But he thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.

Jehovah hath made everything for its own end;\par\tab Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
