The earth is given into the hand of the wicked;\par\tab He covereth the faces of the judges thereof:\par\tab If {\i it be} not {\i he}, who then is it?\par

As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxed rich.

I have seen the wicked in great power,\par\tab And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.

In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune;\par\tab It is ready for them whose foot slippeth.

But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee;\par\tab And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell thee:

{\i God} giveth them to be in security, and they rest thereon;\par\tab And his eyes are upon their ways.

When the wicked spring as the grass,\par\tab And when all the workers of iniquity do flourish;\par\tab It is that they shall be destroyed for ever.

Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?

That against God thou turnest thy spirit,\par\tab And lettest words go out of thy mouth?

For I was envious at the arrogant,\par\tab When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

They are waxed fat, they shine: yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

Then shall he sweep by {\i as} a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty, {\i even} he whose might is his god.\par
