But Nineveh hath been from of old like a pool of water: yet they flee away. Stand, stand, {\i they cry}; but none looketh back.

and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.\par

The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed; they are become as women: her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

and with thee will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke {\i of oxen}; and with thee will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

Therefore shall her young men fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith Jehovah.

I know his wrath, saith Jehovah, that it is nought; his boastings have wrought nothing.

Thus saith Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and I will bring down all of them as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships of their rejoicing.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that {\i the king} said unto him, Have we made thee of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.\par

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
