Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

For, behold, the day cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith Jehovah of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil; for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.

And Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong that executeth his word; for the day of Jehovah is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?\par

and so all Israel shall be saved: even as it is written,\par\tab {\b There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer;\par\tab He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:}

For those days shall be tribulation, such as there hath not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be.

And the children of Judah and the children of Israel shall be gathered together, and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall go up from the land; for great shall be the day of Jezreel.\par

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?\par\tab Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is brought upon me,\par\tab Wherewith Jehovah hath afflicted {\i me} in the day of his fierce anger.

Therefore fear thou not, O Jacob my servant, saith Jehovah; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous;\par\tab But Jehovah delivereth him out of them all.

for the great day of their wrath is come; and who is able to stand?\par

{\b The sun shall be turned into darkness,\par\tab And the moon into blood,\par\tab Before the day of the Lord come,\par\tab That great and notable {\i day}.}

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh.

For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom,\par\tab That was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands were laid upon her.

What shall I testify unto thee? what shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem?\par\tab What shall I compare to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion?\par\tab For thy breach is great like the sea: who can heal thee?

Redeem Israel, O God,\par\tab Out of all his troubles.\par

Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies;

And the inhabitant of this coast-land shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we fled for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and we, how shall we escape?\par

who say to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face; but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.\par

O thou hope of Israel, the Saviour thereof in the time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a sojourner in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?

Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

but it shall be one day which is known unto Jehovah; not day, and not night; but it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light.

Now why dost thou cry out aloud? Is there no king in thee, is thy counsellor perished, that pangs have taken hold of thee as of a woman in travail?

I heard, and my body trembled,\par\tab My lips quivered at the voice;\par\tab Rottenness entereth into my bones, and I tremble in my place;\par\tab Because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble,\par\tab For the coming up of the people that invadeth us.
