He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.\par

Thus saith Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, {\i and} his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of Jehovah that is faithful, {\i even} the Holy One of Israel, who hath chosen thee.\par

And he saith unto them, {\cf6 My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: abide ye here, and watch.}

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Who in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as {\i we are, yet} without sin.

saying, {\cf6 The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.}

And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.

And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

And he said unto them, {\cf6 Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?

The Jews answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?

saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said while he was yet alive, After three days I rise again.

Now shalt thou gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us; they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.\par

And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me.

But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: Thou art waxed fat, thou art grown thick, thou art become sleek; Then he forsook God who made him, And lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,

But I am poor and sorrowful:\par\tab Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

Like as many were astonished at thee (his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men),

I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;\par\tab I am as a man that hath no help,
