Jehovah will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and the princes thereof: It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses:

Is it for thy fear {\i of him} that he reproveth thee,\par\tab That he entereth with thee into judgment?

But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, that oppress the poor, that crush the needy, that say unto their lords, Bring, and let us drink.

As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxed rich.

For the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.\par

Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and a scant measure that is abominable?

And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

For he needeth not further to consider a man,\par\tab That he should go before God in judgment.

The murderer riseth with the light;\par\tab He killeth the poor and needy;\par\tab And in the night he is as a thief.

He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert;\par\tab He lieth in wait to catch the poor:\par\tab He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.

There is a generation whose teeth are {\i as} swords, and their jaw teeth {\i as} knives,\par\tab To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.\par

Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers that write perverseness;

to turn aside the needy from justice, and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

but with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

And the first-born of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and thy remnant shall be slain.

The foot shall tread it down; even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.

The meek also shall increase their joy in Jehovah, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely thereon;

Behold, ye fast for strife and contention, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye fast not this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.

hath wronged the poor and needy, hath taken by robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.

Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, saith the Lord Jehovah.

who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

And if thou sell aught unto thy neighbor, or buy of thy neighbor's hand, ye shall not wrong one another.

And ye shall not wrong one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am Jehovah your God.

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

they that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the {\i same} maiden, to profane my holy name:

Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.
