And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left: if harm befall him by the way in which ye go, then will ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.

The days of our years are threescore years and ten,\par\tab Or even by reason of strength fourscore years;\par\tab Yet is their pride but labor and sorrow;\par\tab For it is soon gone, and we fly away.

Yea, even when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not,\par\tab Until I have declared thy strength unto {\i the next} generation,\par\tab Thy might to every one that is to come.

Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loveth him.

And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

And Reuben spake unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons, if I bring him not to thee: deliver him into my hand, and I will bring him to thee again.

take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die.
