Israel is a luxuriant vine, that putteth forth his fruit: according to the abundance of his fruit he hath multiplied his altars; according to the goodness of their land they have made goodly pillars.

Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate branches of a foreign vine unto me?

Let us get up early to the vineyards;\par\tab Let us see whether the vine hath budded,\par\tab {\i And} its blossom is open,\par\tab {\i And} the pomegranates are in flower:\par\tab There will I give thee my love.

I went down into the garden of nuts,\par\tab To see the green plants of the valley,\par\tab To see whether the vine budded,\par\tab {\i And} the pomegranates were in flower.

Take us the foxes, the little foxes,\par\tab That spoil the vineyards;\par\tab For our vineyards are in blossom.

Wail, O fir-tree, for the cedar is fallen, because the goodly ones are destroyed: wail, O ye oaks of Bashan, for the strong forest is come down.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.\par

Sing, O ye heavens, for Jehovah hath done it; shout, ye lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for Jehovah hath redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.\par

The fig-tree ripeneth her green figs,\par\tab And the vines are in blossom;\par\tab They give forth their fragrance.\par\tab Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

But it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them.
