And she said, As Jehovah thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but a handful of meal in the jar, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

Surely every man walketh in a vain show;\par\tab Surely they are disquieted in vain:\par\tab He heapeth up {\i riches}, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

For all his days are {\i but} sorrows, and his travail is grief; yea, even in the night his heart taketh no rest. This also is vanity.\par

And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced because of all my labor; and this was my portion from all my labor.

There is nothing better for a man {\i than} that he should eat and drink, and make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of God.

In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; yea, God hath made the one side by side with the other, to the end that man should not find out anything {\i that shall be} after him.\par
