For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things.

and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full.

Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say.

But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child {\i serveth} a father, {\i so} he served with me in furtherance of the gospel.

And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, that ye have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed.

So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Show ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf.\par

thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams: for Jehovah your God proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not; that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end:

And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not.

Then said Jehovah unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

And I wrote this very thing, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is {\i the joy} of you all.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be made sorry, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.\par

Wherefore I beseech you to confirm {\i your} love toward him.

how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
