Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.\par

A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil;\par\tab But the fool beareth himself insolently, and is confident.

For I have eaten ashes like bread,\par\tab And mingled my drink with weeping,

Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears,\par\tab And given them tears to drink in large measure.

His ways are firm at all times;\par\tab Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:\par\tab As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.

And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah?

Now David had said, Surely in vain have I kept all that this fellow hath in the wilderness, so that nothing was missed of all that pertained unto him: and he hath returned me evil for good.

and it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.

and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.\par

And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Jehovah hid them.\par
