Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong: Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.

Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; Thou takest away their breath, they die, And return to their dust.

Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth: Hide not thy face from me, Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.

For thou art the glory of their strength; And in thy favor our horn shall be exalted.

He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay; And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

For his anger is but for a moment; His favor is for a life-time: Weeping may tarry for the night, But joy cometh in the morning.

For thou wilt bless the righteous; O Jehovah, thou wilt compass him with favor as with a shield.

Thou hast granted me life and lovingkindness; And thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.

Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?

Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness: But thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.

For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them.

Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah? Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
