Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever.

For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.

Whereas Edom saith, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places; thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and men shall call them The border of wickedness, and The people against whom Jehovah hath indignation for ever.

Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

Remember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom The day of Jerusalem; Who said, Rase it, rase it, Even to the foundation thereof.

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness.

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Thou shalt not abhor an Edomite; for he is thy brother: thou shalt not abhor an Egyptian; because thou wast a sojourner in his land.

Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children;

I have loved you, saith Jehovah. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith Jehovah: yet I loved Jacob;

For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made.

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? Wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not;

behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

Israel hath cast off that which is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
