And the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

He feeds on ashes: a deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Your terribleness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, that hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, said the LORD.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that said in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Was then that which is good made death to me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, worked in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
