The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell got hold on me: I found trouble and sorrow.

Order my steps in your word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

Hold up my goings in your paths, that my footsteps slip not.

You have enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.

As for you also, by the blood of your covenant I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be held of it.
