Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

He delivers me from my enemies: yes, you lift me up above those that rise up against me: you have delivered me from the violent man.

Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.

When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came on me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

But my enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

They also that render evil for good are my adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

The tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

My enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O you most High.

My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set you before them.

And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.

And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
