Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in my own sight: and of the maidservants which you have spoken of, of them shall I be had in honor.

Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

Whoever privately slanders his neighbor, him will I cut off: him that has an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

I was glad when they said to me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it.

An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow you: neither have I desired the woeful day; you know: that which came out of my lips was right before you.

And seek you great things for yourself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, said the LORD: but your life will I give to you for a prey in all places where you go.

(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were on the face of the earth.)

Take my yoke on you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

Serving the LORD with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

That his heart be not lifted up above his brothers, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the middle of Israel.

You are witnesses, and God also, how piously and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the middle of his brothers: and the Spirit of the LORD came on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray you, stand before me; for he has found favor in my sight.

But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.

And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seems it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?
