By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.

I sleep, but my heart wakes: it is the voice of my beloved that knocks, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming;

After a long time the lord of those servants comes, and reckons with them.

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet him.

And he comes to the disciples, and finds them asleep, and said to Peter, What, could you not watch with me one hour?

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he tarried so long in the temple.

But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to farmers, and went into a far country for a long time.

And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Why he said, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:

But that which you have already hold fast till I come.
