And when he had called the people to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

And when he had called all the people to him, he said to them, Listen to me every one of you, and understand:

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

So likewise, whoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lack you one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Then in the audience of all the people he said to his disciples,

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our LORD, I die daily.

Why, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world stands, lest I make my brother to offend.

For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more.

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death;

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

Mortify therefore your members which are on the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.

Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Let us go forth therefore to him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

For as much then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has showed me.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

Fear none of those things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; and you shall have tribulation ten days: be you faithful to death, and I will give you a crown of life.
