And when they were come, they say to him, Master, we know that you are true, and care for no man: for you regard not the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

Tell us therefore, What think you? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

And they send to him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why tempt you me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

And as soon as he was come, he goes straightway to him, and said, Master, master; and kissed him.

Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

For for this cause pay you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually on this very thing.

For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Why from now on know we no man after the flesh: yes, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now from now on know we him no more.

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:

You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which tries our hearts.
