And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

He tears himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for you? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

Because there is wrath, beware lest he take you away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver you.

For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the silly one.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

Then said the LORD, You have had pity on the gourd, for the which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

Then said he to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even to death: tarry you here, and watch with me.

For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death.

And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death;
