What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

Which said to God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? or is it gain to him, that you make your ways perfect?

For he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

For you said, What advantage will it be to you? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

Truly I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.

And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

Lest I be full, and deny you, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not to the seed of Jacob, Seek you me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

Your habitation is in the middle of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, said the LORD.

According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

You have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you:

Till now have you asked nothing in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
