But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.

And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, On the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king's burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the brazen altar shall be for me to inquire by.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king Ahaz.

Ask you a sign of the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

And he said, Hear you now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also?

And they come to you as the people comes, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

And now we call the proud happy; yes, they that work wickedness are set up; yes, they that tempt God are even delivered.

Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted him in Massah.
