Behold, I have refined you, but not with silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.

But he knows the way that I take: when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.

For you, O God, have proved us: you have tried us, as silver is tried.

The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD tries the hearts.

By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up.

Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall you be my people, and I will be your God:

Therefore thus said the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?

And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the LORD.

But the LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as you are this day.

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found to praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you:

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
