What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

O remember that my life is wind: my eye shall no more see good.

I said, O my God, take me not away in the middle of my days: your years are throughout all generations.

Of old have you laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of your hands.

Their soul abhors all manner of meat; and they draw near to the gates of death.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet have you brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead:
