For you have been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

Yet sets he the poor on high from affliction, and makes him families like a flock.

I have stuck to your testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, said the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.

The LORD is your keeper: the LORD is your shade on your right hand.

All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like to you, which deliver the poor from him that is too strong for him, yes, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him?

I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.

He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

And they that know your name will put their trust in you: for you, LORD, have not forsaken them that seek you.

He that dwells in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD has founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

Take counsel, execute judgment; make your shadow as the night in the middle of the noonday; hide the outcasts; denude not him that wanders.

Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not been mindful of the rock of your strength, therefore shall you plant pleasant plants, and shall set it with strange slips:

Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.

And for a spirit of judgment to him that sits in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

For the terrible one is brought to nothing, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

Moreover the multitude of your strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passes away: yes, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

He shall dwell on high: his place of defense shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

O LORD, be gracious to us; we have waited for you: be you their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.

Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

But thus said the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contends with you, and I will save your children.

When you cry, let your companies deliver you; but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that puts his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain;

For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been, said the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at my word.

And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to you from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

You shall ascend and come like a storm, you shall be like a cloud to cover the land, you, and all your bands, and many people with you.

I will also leave in the middle of you an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

Listen, my beloved brothers, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?
